Who Am I??

Shannon Breen (Shannon Jane Breen)

I was born in Durban South Africa in 1999, but my family moved to England when I was 3. Growing up, I never went to school, instead, my mom Home Educated me and my older brother. while home education isn't for everyone, and not every kid will benefit from it, for me personally, I feel that being home educated helped me and my creativity to develop and grow at its own pace and in ways I don't I wouldn't have thought have had I gone to school. It also meant that I was able to focus on studying art more than if I was at school, as both my parents have always encouraged me to do art. One of the ways my mom encouraged my art,  was by allowing me to spend a little more time doing art than other subjects some days, she also went out her way to make other subjects more creative.

When I was 13, there was an opportunity to do my Art & Design GCSE with a small group and a tutor. despite being quite young, I decided to join the group, as I and my mom agreed that even if in the end I didn't feel ready for the exam, I would still benefit from having a tutor. The group I was in was all home-educated kids.

I really enjoyed this group and learned a lot, and after a year, despite being only 14 decided to take my Art GCSE early.

After passing my GCSEs, I went on to complete a Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design. I then also progressed to studying a  Level 3 diploma, which I completed and graduated from college on the 3rd of July 2019.

What Inspires Me?

I have always had a love for fantasy, whether it be a movie, TV Show, Book, visual art, or playing DnD, I love that with fantasy, you can make up whatever you want. There's so much room for creativity, you can just let your imagination go wild. Not to mention there are many sub-genres of fantasy that you can work with.

I get a lot of inspiration from nature and animals. When I was a child, I and my mom kept nature study journals. I learned a lot about plants and animals, including biology and anatomy, which I now put to use in my art.
